There should be no problem getting UserCodes to be accepted — at least with a direct connection bypassing the Windows print server. As a test, you could try connecting directly to the printer from the Mac.

Following your suggestion, I did set up the printer as an IP printer, using consecutively printed manufacturers driver, the Gutenprint driver and the generic Postscript driver.
